Overview : Action Packed thriller with dark comedy

 

Story Line : Set in Los Angles Circa 1977 , the story revolves around Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling who are playing 2 ugly  sides of the same coin that is private detective work . Somehow both of them stumble upon the same case to find one porn artist Misty Mountains who gets mysteriously killed in a car accident , but the grandmother claims that she saw her neice two days after the incident and believes that Misty is alive , she hires the detective to find her . Both Crowe and Gosling team up  , their only lead is a girl called Amelia (Margaret Qualley ) , who the old lady had actually seen 2 days after her neice death . The 2 detectives are determined to  go deep in the case , their investigation  leads them into a deadly  conspiracy which involves the head of the justice department , who coincidentally  happens to be the mother of Amelia . Now you must be wondering what Amelia is doing in all this , well Amelia comes across a film that stars Misty the film exposes Amelia’s  mother’s involvement in some illegal stuff that why Misty was killed , now Amelia life was on stake by her own mother , The detectives have to find the film and also protect Amelia . Will they be able to do so is for the audience to watch .

 

Performances : The Canadian heartthrob Ryan steals the show as a single dad of a teenager  (Rice) , who is way smarter than him , Ryan is spectacular , be it falling off high places , being beaten up by bad guys or instructing his daughter to drop stud , he is totally hilarious . Crowe on the contrary walks away with better one liners . Matt Bomer makes a stunning cameo Rice is a beautiful young girl who has done her role intelligently .

Verdict : The highlight of the the film lies in the pairing of the classic odd chemistry . Despite the plot being peculiar it is Crowe and Gosling manages to keep up interest intact . It is an eccentric crime drama with a dark comedy , though there is plethora of nudity and violence , but it is the comedy and pairing of the character’s that makes it an interesting and must watch .
